Afternoon Tea for Fashionista’s at The Berkeley London

I cannot think of a better way to spend a cold winters afternoon than experiencing high tea at an exclusive hotel in London. And that is exactly what we did during our recent stay in London.

The Berkeley Hotel offers a unique style of afternoon tea with a fashionista twist. Inspired by the worlds finest designers such as Burberry, Westwood and Armani, these gorgeous creations almost look too good to eat.

We opted for the ‘Couture Champagne Prêt-à-Portea’ which came with a beautiful Rosé. You could also opt for one of the many teas they have on offer including loose leaf and herbal infusions such as Camomile Citron, Wild Blossom and Berries, Chocolate Mint Truffle or African Amber.

If you have intolerance to gluten or nuts the lovely chefs at The Berkeley will ensure you can still enjoy the flavors of fashion.

The menu included mouth watering tea sandwiches, savory tasters and a mixture of the most sublime sweet canapés you have ever experienced, of course, all made to look like the latest catwalk designs from your favorite fashion designers.

Some of what you could expect from your fashionista afternoon tea would be:

Burberry Prorsum heart patterned ginger biscuit trench with caramel icing

Gianvito Rossi chocolate over-the-knee boot biscuit with ankle strap

Emporio Armarni violet cassis mousse and light Curacao jelly topped with chocolate swirl

Jean Paul Gaultier gold quilted banana and caramel cremeux with passion fruit compote accessorised with leopard print chocolate shard

Saint Laurent essential autumn red “Classic Duffle 6” Victoria sponge cake bag

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania oversized checked mint green macaroon

Miu Miu polka dot jaconde and Gianduia mousse topped with playful orange neckscarf

Giles antique gold chocolate feather set on a base of Sacher Torte

Oscar de la Renta orange bavarois emphasized with shocking pink chocolate embroidery

The flavors of these creations I can only describe as perfection. There was a good mix of sweet and savory and the sweets were not too sweet. All the flavors seemed to compliment each other and with each bite I wanted more.

The teahouse itself is the epitome of elegance and charm. The décor was very stylish which perfectly suited the theme. The staff were welcoming and very attentive.  They were happy to help you through your choices and discuss how each canapé was inspired (with pictures!).

  2. Surprise, surprise…self-proclaimed island boy here not to island enough to admit that, yes, I love tea myself. And high tea at that, too. In Hawaii, many of us have resort/hospitality as our career backgrounds, and 8 years of food and beverage has taught me the fineries of fancy tea service. This was an awesome article that really brought me back to my youngster days of high tea and fancy resorts!
