As we walk through the doors of Palais Hansen Kempinski Hotel my inner princess immediately feel like she’s come home. I have seen some amazing hotels in my lifetime but this is incredible, exquisite even.
I feel very under-dressed in my traveling clothes but I am too occupied by all the ‘pretty’ surrounding me to worry about my attire for too long. I don’t know what to look at; The gorgeous chandelier, the piano player; or the guests more appropriately dressed than I am. It certainly is a delight for my visual senses.
We check in and go up to our room. After seeing the foyer area we get the feeling it’s going to be a nice room. My inner Princess is giddy at the thought. But even in our wildest dreams I don’t think we were prepared for what we just stepped in to. Our suite (oh the joy!) is incredible. Decorated in earthy tones, the suite has a separate living area and bedroom. The bathroom is nearly as big as most hotel rooms. And the bathtub, Oh My God – I could live in that tub!
I have spoken before about my love of luxury. In our ‘old life’ before we became permanent travelers, we would spoil ourselves with luxury hotel stays for special occasions or when we were on vacation. But Kempinski has taken ‘luxury’ to a whole new level – one that I am going to thoroughly enjoy!
After we check out our room, and do a little happy dance, we go off to explore the hotel. Usually straight after we check into a hotel, we leave to explore the city. Not this time; we want to explore the magnificent premises which we will call home for 2 nights.
The hotel only opened in March 2013 so everything looks, and is, fresh and new. We were told that it took 15 years for Kempinski to find the ‘right’ location in Vienna for this hotel but it was worth the wait; a perfect hotel in a perfect location.
There are 151 rooms in total, ranging from a superior room to the presidential suite. We were in the Hansen Suite, which is approximately 550 square feet.
There are two restaurants, two bars and a cigar lounge located inside the hotel. The Lobby Lounge & Bar is where I encountered my first jaw dropping moment when we checked in with the stunning chandelier and the piano player. Now, with more time to take it all in, I see just how beautiful it is down here. There are a lot of people here, chatting over tea or wine, nibbling on scrumptious Viennese cakes. I understand why – The area is beautiful and I imagine it isn’t just hotel guests who come to the Lobby Lounge for afternoon tea.
We wandered off to find the spa for a sneak peek as we both had an appointment for a massage later that afternoon. Call is ‘professional curiosity’ (I’m an ex spa owner) or call it being nosy, either way I was dying to get a look at the Kempinska Spa. Wow! Back in the day I used to dream of owning a spa like this – Truly amazing. We were now very eager for our treatments!
After exploring the hotel we wander back up to our room. I find it hard to want to leave this hotel to explore Vienna but of course the room will still be here on my return, so we get freshen up and head out into Vienna and the hopes she impresses us as much as Kempinski has.
Have you ever stay in a hotel that blew you away?
