During our recent road trip through Europe, we booked a stop in Klagenfurt Austria. We had no idea what this town was all about, it just worked out well for an over night stop on our way to Vienna. It turns out Klagenfurt was a beautiful surprise.
When we arrived we were blown away by its charm and history. They say that it’s the small cities or towns that hold the countries character and for Austria I think they are right. Klagenfurt was charming, sweet and a wonderful place for an over night stop. In fact, we wish we had booked more time there, and had we known just how lovely it was here, we would have.
For a small city there is a lot to do in Klagenfurt. But what we loved most was walking around the ‘old town’, taking in the beautiful architecture and absorbing the history of the town. And after all the walking around, we re-fueled on some of the best cuisine we had on our European road trip. We experienced amazing food during our stay at Moser Verdino and it was here where we experienced the most delicious Gelato we have ever had! Sorry Italy but Klagenfurt wins that war!
If you are ever in Austria, or northeastern Italy for that matter, I highly recommend a visit to this gorgeous city. The beauty and history of this city will capture your heart.
Which small city have you traveled to that blew you away?
