2013 was a big year for us. While we wrote about our personal journey it was also a big year for Suitcase Stories. We hit some pretty cool milestones and published more than 300 posts!
From those 300+ posts, here are the Top 5 Viewed Posts of 2013, starting with the most popular.
1. Lets get off our high horses – Full time travel isn’t the only way to travel!
Michael and I are what some call ‘digital nomads’. Some refer to it as ‘nomadic living’ and others call it ‘perpetual travel’ or ‘full time travel’. I call it living my dreams.
What does it mean to be a full time traveler? We sold our possessions (boxed up the few things we wanted to keep), quit our jobs, said goodbye to family and friends and we set off to see the world. We don’t know how long we will be on the road and we don’t have any set plans. We are just ‘going with the flow’!
2. Housesitting & Travel: What exactly does FREE accommodation cost?
When we talk about housesitting, which we do a lot, and we tell people we get to live in luxurious homes for FREE, the immediate question is – What’s the catch?
And I guess it’s a fair question because it really does sound too good to be true doesn’t it?
We have had the pleasure of living in beach houses, million dollar homes, island homes, quaint English cottages, European rural properties, inner city apartments and so much more! All for FREE!
3. Worlds Biggest Travel Bloggers Tell All – What Travel Means to Me
I could tell you what travel means to me, in fact I already have, but wouldn’t it be much better to hear it from ten of the BIGGEST travel bloggers in the world??
All of these men and women have been a huge inspiration to me, and to many other travelers and bloggers around the world. When Michael and I were planning our new travel life, it was these travel bloggers that unknowingly encouraged me to pursue my dreams of perpetual travel. They gave me the courage, inspiration and knowledge to turn my dream into a reality.
Michael and I hope that we can now inspire others through this blog just as we were inspired by these wonderful travel bloggers. But for now, lets hear what travel means to these Top 10 Travel Bloggers!
4. One year of full time travel! Where we’ve been and our stats so far
Oh. My. God! Time flies when you’re having fun!
We have been on the road for a whole 12 months! One year of full time travel! It was exactly 1 year ago today that we sold our possessions, packed our bags and left Australia for a life of travel and extraordinary experiences!
We have had an amazing 12 months so we thought we would give you a break down of where we have been and our ‘travel stats’ so far.
5. Central America is safe to travel to!
Central America was never high on my ‘to-do list. Don’t get me wrong, I was intrigued by these countries and knew they would be beautiful, but I never considered them because I was worried about my safety. Is Central America safe to travel to?
Fast forward a few years later, we have now spent quite a bit of time in Costa Rica & Mexico (though technically not Central America it tends to get lumped into this discussion) and I find myself asking “Why was I so scared to travel to Central America?”.
Why? Because the media kept telling me how unsafe it was there. There are constant stories of terrible things that happen here. But what they fail to remind us is 1: These terrible things happen all over the world, even in our own backyard! 2: There is a lot more beauty in this world than ugly.
During our time in Central America we have never felt unsafe. Of course, we don’t do silly things like walk down dark alleys at night, or leave our belongings in plain sight.
