During our recent stay in Cancun Mexico, we spent a few days exploring other areas near by.  One of those areas was Merida.

Merida is a city in the Yucatan Peninsular about 4 hours drive west of Cancun.  We hired a car – although there are buses that can take you out the Merida from Cancun – and drove from Cancun to Merida via the ruins at Chichen Itza.

We really didn’t know a lot about this city at all.  In fact, it was recommended by one of our followers so taking his advice we went there but without really knowing what to expect!

To say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement!  We are HUGE fans of colorful cities/towns (as indicated in our Curacao photo essay and our Izamal photo essay), so we were delighted to see yet another colorful display in Merida.

It was on our way to Merida when we stumbled across the Yellow City of Izamal so had already seen a lot of color in this region.

We decided the best way to see this city was on foot.  So we parked the car and set on foot to see more amazing colors of Mexico…

Have you been to Merida? What were your thoughts on this colorful city? What other cities in the world have you seen that are colorful?
